Pan with Jazz & Soca
Please join us to celebrate Caribbean Heritage Month featuring Kobie Andrews. He has been in love with music ever since he was a small child, starting with piano at three years old. His journey with the steel drums began when he was eight years old. From the moment he first laid eyes on the instrument, he knew that it would change his life. Over the next decade, the steel drum came to play a huge part in his daily life. He went on to play in the International Panorama competition in 2016 in both the junior band and adult band competitions, and subsequently joined both the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Orchestra, and the Jose Andre Quartet. He now studies under his longtime mentor Victor Provost, and will attend the University of Maryland (UMD) in the fall of 2021, where he will pursue a Bachelor of Music with steel pan as his main instrument, a first for UMD. You can catch his performance this Fall in the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.
This performance will be streamed via Brooklyn Public Library YouTube page.
