Room: History, Biography, Religion, 2nd Floor

In the mid-20th century, dashing literary duo Bernard and Avis DeVoto exposed a plot by corrupt Western senators to sell off our national parks, forests and grasslands. As the DeVotos' public lands advocacy got them blacklisted by the FBI and hounded by demagogue Joe McCarthy, to their aid came then-unknown aspiring cookbook author Julia Child. In his book This America of Ours, Nate Schweber tells the true story of how the DeVotos and Child fought McCarthyism to save America's national parks.

Nate Schweber is the author of THIS AMERICA OF OURS: Bernard and Avis DeVoto and the Forgotten Fight to Save the Wild, which won the 2023 High Plains Book Award for nonfiction. His journalism has appeared in The New York Times, ProPublica, and other publications. A Montana native, he lives in Brooklyn.
