Center for Brooklyn History CTLE PLatBPL

Join us for the second in a series of professional learning events for educators centered on Muslims in Brooklyn, a public history project by Brooklyn Public Library’s Center for Brooklyn History designed to amplify the stories of Brooklyn’s Muslim communities. Fellow educator and curriculum author Dr. Habiba Noor will lead us through an active listening session as we present the oral history of a Muslims in Brooklyn narrator. Attendees will learn methods to engage students in listening and analysis or primary source material and the role oral history can play in creating culturally-responsive classrooms. Then, artist Alison Kysia will share lesson plans from the Challenge Islamophobia project and her current project, 99 Clay Vessels: The Muslim Women Storytellimg Project. Educators will view component parts of the 99 Clay Vessels Project and generate ideas about how to engage student learning.
