More Than A Medal
Hundreds of service members were denied recognition and the Medal of Honor following World War I due to their race. This 25-minute documentary, “More Than a Medal,” produced by Lame Deer Films in cooperation with the Park University Robb Centre, interweaves the efforts of the researchers working against time, untold heroic stories of courage on the battlefields of France, on the seas and in the air, and the experience of modern-day descendants as they maintain cautious hope of recognition. To date, researchers have identified 214 servicemembers — 105 Jewish Americans, 73 African Americans, 23 Native Americans, 12 Hispanic Americans and one Asian American — who have qualified for review.
Come learn about legislative efforts to get recognition for these soldiers who were denied recognition due to race. Following the film, there will be a question and answer session with the producers/directors, Alex Goldstein and Clark Slater, and director of the Park University Robb Center, Tim Westcott, PhD.
