lectures and discussions music

Join fellow music lovers to discuss classic albums, their meanings and memories, from the Brooklyn Public Library's Vinyl Collection! For our first meeting, we'll be jumping into the Beatles' first step into studio psychedelia, Revolver. The Fab Four took just 14 tracks to shred expectations and create a new paradigm for the pop album, ranging from the locked-in fury of "Taxman" to the Gothic storytelling of "Eleanor Rigby" to the addled, nihilistic lethargy of "I'm Only Sleeping"--and that's just the first three tracks!

Was Revolver a high-water mark or an abandonment of what made the mop-top rockers so special? Is it a pathbreaking experiment, or a pastiche of favorite R&B moves and moods? Make your voice heard, and hear what other fans have to say!

Register here to receive digital listening information and supplementary reading and listening.

All of the records we'll discuss are part of the Vinyl Collection at the Central Library. You can borrow them with your library card or listen to them at the library's listening station! Please note that all vinyl records must be checked out from and returned at the Central Library.
