Mario Vargas Llosa: The Story of the Novelist Who Would Be President profiles the life and work of one of the world's greatest contemporary novelists, who in 1990 campaigned unsuccessfully for the Presidency of Peru--and who died earlier this year. In lengthy, intimate interviews, Vargas Llosa discusses his life to date, including two scandalous marriages, a political trajectory from Marxism to Conservatism, eighteen years of self-imposed exile in Europe, the personal inspiration behind novels such as The War of the End of the World and Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter, and his motivations for running for the Presidency.
