BPL Presents film litfilm

Documentary, dir. by Magnus Bärtås
Sweden, 2017, 73 min

In Haruki Murakami's novel Kafka on the Beach, a mysterious man appears, who calls himself Johnnie Walker. Is he modelled on Tokyo-based art impresario Joni Waka, or is it the other way around? A self-proclaimed outsider who claims to come from an age-old Jewish lineage, charismatic and talkative Waka is a true chameleon, cultivating his entire life story as fiction. Ignoring all social norms, he sees himself as a 'henna gaijin', the strangest among strangers, and uses this position as a space of freedom to stage his life and create an everyday comedy.

All screenings are free but require reservations. Times subject to change. For the full LitFilm roster, go here.
