LitFilm 2023 Keynote: My Name is Pauli Murray, with director Betsy West & Shola Lynch
Documentary, dir. by Julie Cohen, Betsy West
U.S., 2021, 93 min
They are one of the most influential figures in American 20th century history. It’s time you learn their name. Pauli Murray was a legal trailblazer whose ideas influenced RBG’s fight for gender equality and Thurgood Marshall’s civil rights movements. Told largely in their own words, the film is a portrait of their impact as a non-binary Black luminary: lawyer, activist, poet, and priest who transformed our world.
The film will be followed by a keynote by director Betsy West, who will be in conversation with Shola Lynch, filmmaker and Curator of the Moving Image and Recorded Sound Division at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
