Join us for our Labor History in Film series on Monday evenings in May, featuring four films that look at fictionalized accounts of labor rights fights. We will provide popcorn for viewers to enjoy as well as library resources on labor history, workers' rights, and unions for those who would like to learn more.

  • Bread & Roses, May 1 @ 6pm - Mexican immigrant sisters working as janitors in Los Angeles try to unionize with help from a labor organizer. Starring Elpidia Carrillo, Adrien Brody.
  • Norma Rae, May 8 @ 6pm - A courageous Southern textile worker fights to unionize coworkers at a small-town cotton mill. Starring Sally Fields, Beau Bridges.
  • Blue Collar, May 15 @ 6pm - Three Detroit auto factory workers struggling to get by blame their management and the union for their situations and try to do something about it. Starring Richard Pryor, Yaphet Kotto.
  • Newsies, May 22 @ 5:45pm - Musical about the 1899 strike of New York newsboys. Starring Christian Bale, Ann-Margret.
