Juneteenth: Sounds of Freedom
Presenters will be Bridges: A Pan-Afrikan ARTS Movement with Wéma Ragophala, Kai Diata Giovanni, and Malcolm Melendez.

We listen for the sounds of freedom, and wonder if the chords are played in tune will the liberties of liberation reach all Americans? Join us, and follow the journey towards freedom this Juneteenth through arts and activism. Travel with us, as we follow the sounds of freedom, and traverse a path to understand our own role in this Emancipation story- "No one is free, unless we are all free".
Wéma Ragophala has worked at the intersection of arts and community for almost 20 years. She is a mother, arts administrator, performing artist, director, educator, and founder of Bridges: A Pan-Afrikan ARTS Movement, an organization which gives opportunities for arts collaboration, international arts exchange, community advocacy, and global partnerships. Kai Diata Giovanni is a 17-year-old poet from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, NY. She has performed poetry at the Blue Note, the Brooklyn Children's Museum, and more. Malcolm Melendez is a 18-year-old musician who plays the double bass, electric bass, cello and violin. He performs with New York Youth Symphony, ISO Third Street Symphonic Band and Noel Pointer String Players. Collectively, we have collaborated and created work for events in New York as well as South Africa including a youth day celebration called Amplify ! Youth Arts in Action.
