Strikingly shot, this portrait of the writer and thinker finds him discussing his work, sexuality, and complex feelings about the United States. Followed by a talkback with Brian Meacham on preservation and restoration of this film, with outtakes.

Brian Meacham is the Managing Archivist at the Yale Film Archive, where he oversees acquisition, conservation, preservation, and access to print and pre-print material in the archive’s film collection. A graduate of the Selznick School of Film Preservation at George Eastman Museum, he teaches on film archiving in the Yale Film and Media Studies program and sits on the Board of Directors of the Association of Moving Image Archivists.
