Intellectual Property Basics: Claiming Your Creative Rights
Small businesses have nothing more important to protect and preserve than their reputations – and that protection often begins by securing the rights to their intellectual property. And as the small business sector becomes more complex and entrepreneurial, small businesses are increasingly creating original content which has tremendous value to their owners and should be protected.
This workshop introduces the basic concepts of intellectual property law, including copyright, trademark and design and utility patents, and ownership of works/content/inventions and confidentiality. The presentation focuses on protecting content principally through the copyright laws, and will also include a discussion of common pitfalls small businesses and nonprofits face in this area of law.
Presented in partnership with Start Small Think Big.
