Intellectual Freedom Teen Meetup: Political Poster History with Josh McPhee
Artist Josh McPhee will join our Intellectual Freedom Teen Meetup to talk about the development and use of political graphics and posters over the past 200 years. International in scope, this presentation will focus on the development of a “lexicon” of political imagery which is created, deployed, and evolved across both time and geography by people organizing to transform their lives and communities. This history includes iconic graphics such as the Red Wedge (emerging from the Soviet Revolution, José Guadalupe Posada's skeletons, the pink triangle as used by ACT UP in the fight against AIDS, but through the contemporary use of the monarch butterfly to represent migration.
Join us to discuss intellectual freedom issues, your favorite books, and all things BPL's Books Unbanned initiative. Connect with peers across the country and learn how you can support youth in protecting the right to read whatever they choose.
Please register by 4 pm EST to receive a Zoom link the day of the meetup.
