How To Apply for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Waiver

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program currently supports thousands of NYC employees as they work to escape the burden of overwhelming student debt. The October 31st deadline for enrolling in the PSLF waiver is fast approaching.

Student loan borrowers are invited to an open house at Brooklyn Public Library's New Lots Learning Center. Drop in to start your applications online! Staff will be available to facilitate this online process.

Student borrowers will go home having begun their online applications and will have taken the first steps toward having their loans forgiven!

What you will need: 

  • Your most recent W-2s from your employer(s) OR your employers Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN), and
  • Your Federal Student Aid (FSA) login information.

Note: The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) waiver and the President’s Student Debt Relief Plan are different programs.

The time to apply for the PSLF waiver ends on October 31, 2022.

Follow these steps:
Step 1: Visit StudentAid.gov/PSLF NOW!
Step 2: Login (or create an account and login)
Step 3: Run the PSLF Help Tool.
Step 4: Follow the government’s guidance from there.
