The Green Thread: Women Weaving Justice with Sustainable Fashion
In partnership with Brooklyn Public Library's Business & Career Center and Con Edison, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office is excited to host The Green Thread: Women Weaving Justice with Sustainable Fashion in celebration of Women's History Month.
Join us for a vibrant community event that shines a spotlight on women leaders who are driving change in sustainability, environmental law, and ethical fashion. Christine Appah, ESQ will open the evening by laying the groundwork for understanding sustainability and environmental law within the fashion industry, highlighting emerging legislation in New York and California aimed at shaping corporate responsibility and transparency to hold the industry accountable.
Through a lively panel featuring - Hekima Hapa (Black Girls Sew), Camille Tagle (FABSCRAP Co-Founder) and Christine Appah, ESQ (Adjunct Professor of Law and Climate) - attendees will hear how policy, design, and community initiatives intersect. This conversation will unpack the potential implications of proposed state legislation, offering a range of perspectives ranging from legal frameworks and compliance challenges to the realities faced by small brands and independent creatives.
The event concludes with a fashion showcase highlighting inventive vintage and upcycled looks from panelists, LevelUP Leaders, and designers including Hekima Hapa. All attendees are encouraged to be a part of the experience by wearing upcycled or vintage clothes. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate innovation, resourcefulness, and the power of design to reimagine fashion’s future.
