Call for Submissions: Brooklyn Public Library Teen Writing Contest (March 1-31, 2023)
Writers in grades 6 to 12 in New York City are invited to submit poetry and prose to be judged by a panel of BPL’s expert young adult librarians for creativity, style and voice. We are offering separate prizes for middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) writers.
Entries are accepted in two categories:
•Poetry (up to 500 words)
•Prose (up to 2,500 words)
Top winners in poetry and prose will receive the Ned Vizzini Teen Writing Prize with cash awards ($500 and $250 for first and second place, respectively), and have their pieces published in the Teen Writing Journal distributed by Brooklyn Public Library. A total of $3000 in prizes will be awarded. Youth writers will also be honored at a reception in June! Writing kits are available at libraries throughout Brooklyn. Stop in for a notebook, pen, and a zine of writing prompts while supplies last. Full rules and entry form: [bklynlib.org/teen-writing-contest]bklynlib.org/teen-writing-contest.
Winners will be notified by email no later than Monday, May 1. We will also post the list of winners on the teen blog, Bklyn Future.
