book discussion
Join Flatbush Library's monthly book club for a chance to meet your neighbors and dive into some great books. We read a variety of nonfiction and contemporary fiction.
For March we'll be reading Olga Dies Dreaming by local author Xochitl Gonzalez. The novel follows two adult siblings from Sunset Park who are grappling in their own ways with their family history. Despite their public success, behind closed doors brother and sister struggle to come to terms with the fact that their mother, Blanca, abandoned them to pursue her own activist dreams. Set against the backdrop of New York City in the months surrounding the most devastating hurricane in Puerto Rico’s history, this is a story that examines political corruption, familial strife, and the very notion of the American dream—all while asking what it really means to weather a storm.
Copies of the book will be available to pick up at the library's front desk. Masks and registration are encouraged. All are welcome.
