The Billion Oyster Project (BOP) is a nonprofit building oyster reefs and oyster nurseries across New York Harbor. Over the next 5 years, BOP hopes to build the capacity to restore 25 million oysters per year — and ultimately restore 100 acres of reefs by 2035.
Catch BOP Outreach and Engagement Manager Agata P. as she walks us through living shorelines -- the history, the concept, the practice, and all the technical stuff too! Join us on IGTV @bklynlibrary at 3:30 pm on Thursday, February 25th to see the beautiful, thriving marine life living in New York City's waters.
After you've seen a real, live oyster research station in action, make sure to drop by the Mill Basin Library to pick up a grab-and-go bag! We'll provide you with the necessary materials and instructions to make your very own oyster research station from recyclables and craft supplies. While supplies last. Bags will be available beginning Monday, February 22nd.
