Events for Youth & Families: City of Trash
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the high probability of rain this evening through tomorrow, we have made the decision to present this event virtually on BPL's Facebook page and on YouTube. It will remain there for 48 hours and then taken down. For PDF puppet making instructions, go to this page and download the links for each animal.
Help! Help! City of Trash residents do not know what to do - their beloved city is overrun with waste! Watch the virtual performance in advance and on October 30th at the live workshop audience members ages 7 and up will be guided through a found object puppet building workshop to build their own superheroes and help us finish our story and save the city.
Materials needed:
You and your ideas! Scissors; Glue/tape; Marker; and a variety of found/recyclable objects that are interesting to you. Make sure these objects are safe, no sharp edges, or cleaning fluid containers. Some examples include: cardboard, boxes, plastic bags, egg cartons, milk cartons, salad containers, take-out containers, recycled paper/magazines, food scraps, or items in the giveaway pile (knick knacks, old shoes, etc.).
City of Trash is a theatrical experience created by Grand Pistachio, who makes theater for young people using larger-than-life forms of puppetry, masks and music. Grand Pistachio’s mission is to encourage empathy and open new ways for young people to view one another, the world and their role in it.
City of Trash is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council.
Events for Youth & Families programs are made possible through generous support from the Estate of Pearl S. Reuillard in memory of her parents Yetta and Louis Schwartz.
