1970, Lower East Side - Jose and his older sister Gloria have always been there for each other, but the summer he turns 15 everything changes. Gloria decides to leave home and join the Young Lords, leaving Jose to take care of their ailing mother.  Gloria has big plans to change the healthcare system and help their mother, while Jose just wants her to come home.  When Gloria participates in a dangerous hospital takeover, they must both decide what is most important.

Told with shadow puppetry this piece is appropriate for ages 8 and up.  Shadow puppetry workshop to follow the performance. Presented by Grand Pistachio

We are very excited to have you back at our in-person events at BPL. Please be considerate of your fellow guests and stay home if you’re feeling unwell. Also, consider wearing a mask when attending indoor BPL Presents events. You’ll be doing your part to help keep yourself and everyone healthy and safe.

Grand Pistachio creates original theater for young people utilizing larger than life forms of puppetry, mask, and music.  Our mission is to engage audience empathy and open new ways for young people to view each other,  the world, and their role in it.

Layer the Walls is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council.
