dia Events for Youth and Family kids Virtual Programming

First we will go over a brief history of the Japanese storytelling tradition of Kamishibai. We will then explore key themes in Broken Butterfly Wings / Alas de mariposa rotas to show how links can be made with the children’s home culture(s) and communities. Author Raquel Ortiz will sing a song in Spanish (“Alitas rotas") and play selected Afro Puerto Rican Bomba rhythms to model how to actively engage children in a story. Follow by an interactive reading of the story and hands-on workshop with a demonstration of how to create a stick puppet based on one of the characters featured in the book. 

This pre-recorded program will air on the YouTube Channel and remain there for 48 hours, then will be taken down. 

Templates are provided that can be downloaded and colored. Teaching guide is included.
