Join educators from Mixteca's Immigrant Rights Program for a 45-minute Know Your Rights Workshop for educators working with young children in New York City. Mixteca was established in 2000 by a group of concerned community members to address critical needs in health, education, social and legal issues facing the burgeoning Mexican and Latin American immigrant community in Brooklyn.

Learn valuable, up to date information to share with the families you work with, including:

-Updates on policies and laws for immigration

-Know your Rights when facing immigration officials

-Know your Rights in schools, and other private vs. public spaces

-Family emergency planning

Following the KYR Workshop, Katie Peinovich, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for the School and Community Programs team at the Child Mind Institute, will talk specifically about the impact that stress and trauma around immigration policies has on young children and will provide some strategies to help mitigate that stress and support families. Katie provides evidence-based trauma treatment to children in the New York City public school system and works with parents, teachers and school administrators to deepen their understanding of childhood trauma, its impact, and how to connect affected children with high quality care.
