Dyker Presents: Explore Chinoiserie Style Gongbi Painting with Henry Li
European designers drew upon the exuberance of Chinese motifs created a style -Chinoiserie- that proved popular beginning in the 17-18th century and continuing through contemporary times. The intrigue and versatility of Chinoiserie has influenced many facets of decorative art, from architecture to furniture to paintings in the 1930s during the Art Deco period, and it’s also popular today as we move forward into an era of maximalist design. Teaching artist Henry Li is going to lead participants explore the following topics in Chinoiserie style:
Lesson 1: Mandarin Orange Tree in Blue and White Jar
Lesson 2: Birds with Tree Blossoms
Lesson 3: Tree Peony with Butterflies
Lesson 4: Blue Heron or Crane with Pine Tree
Lesson 5: Wisterias, Rose, or Iris
Lesson 6: Pheasants, Peacock, or Phoenix
Lesson 7: Chinoiserie landscape
Lesson 8: Culminating Event – find a vase, furniture, fabric, or wallpaper in your home to paint in Chinoiserie style
Materials:
Any non-absorbant paper such as hot-press watercolor paper, bristol paper, sized (ripe) Xuan paper, or silk.
Watercolor paints, gold and/or silver paints, white guoache, and/or Chinese brush painting paints
Asian brush painting brushes and/or watercolor brushes, prefer small and fine tip brushes
Registration is required. Those who had registered for the 4/23/2022 #Plantwildflowers Chinoiserie class are already registered for this May-June new series. New participants only need to register for the first class to receive communication for additional classes for this Wednesday seriers.
Class handouts and Zoom Invite will be emailed to registered participants a few hours before each session.
