The Dream String Quartet presents The Colour of Music
Join us at Brighton Beach Library as we celebrate Black History month with a musical performance by The Dream String Quartet!
The Dream String Quartet proudly presents an exquisite selection of works from the Afro Diasporic classical canon. Many of these remarkable compositions, preserved only in manuscript form within library archives, have historically remained inaccessible due to systemic barriers in music publishing that marginalized the contributions of Black composers. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of individuals like composer Jeremy Crosmer, we are privileged to bring these hidden treasures to life, sharing their brilliance with audiences anew.
The New York City based Dream String Quartet quartet is made up of founding members Malachi Brown, Dwayne Beach, Elizabeth Hendy, and Maggy Simon. The quartet was built on desire to invent, curiosity to experiment, and passion to collaborate. True to our name, we are dreamers at heart, dedicated to sharing our music and art with the world. The quartet takes pride in incorporating singing and movement into its performances and creations, bringing a dynamic and multidimensional energy to the stage. The four members thrive on improvisation and enjoy composing music across a variety of styles, including folk, R&B, pop, disco, and contemporary genres. The quartet has performed at House of Yes, the Pink Frog, Nublu, Groupmuse house concerts, and Target Margin Theatre.
