Cycle Alliance: A Pro-Period Advocacy Workshop for Teens
This event has been cancelled.
Cycle Alliance is a Virtual Teen Program that will empower teens to use their voices through pro-period advocacy.
Registration (at the right) and completion of an online voulnteer application is required.
During the three week program, Teens will:
- learn bystander intervention skills using Hollaback's 5 D method
- learn media literacy
- learn how to locate and contact their local politicians
- discuss media and society's portrayal of menstruation
- demystify periods and menstruation
Teens, ages 13-18, of all genders are invited to join the Cycle Alliance. This is a special three-week series of virtual workshops that will empower teens to speak about issues surrounding menstruation; challenge period shaming; and address period poverty through a social media campaign. Each week, we will address our goals through education, advocacy, and civic engagement. Teens will learn how to identify and contact their local political leaders; learn how to access trustworthy information to combat period shaming; and learn bystander intervention tools. They will also express their creativity by designing memes, gifs, and other social media ready art.
This is a three week program offered in October, November and December. Teens should indicate which month they want to participate in their volunteer application. For more information and to fill out a volunteer application, click here: https://www.bklynlibrary.org/event-series/cycle-alliance
