Creative Aging: Latin Social Dance & Exercise
Get moving, increase your energy and feel great dancing the most popular Latin Social dances ( Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Chachacha & Bachata).
A weekly 90 minutes program specially designed for seniors connecting body, mind and spirit.
Physical activity is essential to healthy aging; Latin social dancing among seniors can provide tremendous physical and emotional benefits; increase musical appreciation; encourage social integration; evoke memories and promote a sense of identity and belonging to a worldwide community. Most forms of Latin dances are easy to learn, and the process is enjoyable. It does not require extensive hours of learning or special physical capacity. They are perfect for the senior population as the benefits are manifold. All classes will be taught in both English and Spanish, with an emphasis on Spanish vocabulary that pertains to the footwork and figures of each dance genre.
Learning Goals:
• Increase physical activity, gaining strength, flexibility and coordination, improved balance, posture, and body awareness.
• Gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Latin Social Dances, the history, culture, dance and musical forms.
• Enjoy dancing in a social setting; enjoy new connections and friendships with the senior community.
• Avoid social isolation and the risk of depression and anxiety.
No Experience Necessary.
