Creative Aging: Drawing and Collage with Karen Fitzgerald

Drawing and Collage is a 6-week class designed to focus on how each process informs the other. Participants will develop drawing and collage skills that reflect their exploration of learning to see and express ideas as an artist sees. Participants will learn basic visual ideas such as narrative and symbolic potential, organizing compositions, organizing information, using color for expressive potential, etc. A variety of materials will be used including dry and wet drawing media as well as collaged media.
This class will be virtual.
Limited number of materials kits (paper, glue stick, magazines) available at Adams Street Library for registrants!
WEEK ONE, October 25, 5-7PM
Participants learn the contour drawing process.
WEEK TWO, November 1, 5-7PM
We examine collage and learn about a merged image.
WEEK THREE, November 15, 5-7PM
We create a collage composition using merged imagery, adding patterning in select areas.
WEEK FOUR, November 22, 5-7PM
We learn about using india ink. We learn gesture drawing, using india ink.
WEEK FIVE, November 29, 5-7PM
We create a collaged composition of a setting.
WEEK SIX, December 6, 5-7PM
Working with line, gesture and brushwork, we add a drawing to a collaged ground by using ink directly on the collage.
WEEK SEVEN, December 13, 5-7PM
During this session we will share participant work and discuss what we've noticed over the course of the sessions.
SUPPLIES:
· Good bond paper, at least 80#. Can be a pad, 12"x18". You'll need a minimum of 50 sheets

· Scissors
· Glue sticks
· Tracing paper
· Magazines as collage resource material
· Markers (consider copper / silver / in addition to black.)
· India ink (fluid)
· Brushes for ink application
· A palette to mix ink values
· Water container
