You are the protagonist of your next comic in this autobio comics primer. Led by cartoonist, Hazel Newlevant, explore the experiences that defined and changed you, design a cartoon version of yourself, and learn how to turn your treasured and embarrassing memories into a story to share with others.
Materials (pens, pencils, paper) will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own.
Hazel Newlevant is a Portland-raised, Queens-residing cartoonist. They like to create comics to synthesize their experiences, and about queer history. Their comics include the graphic novellas If This Be Sin and Sugar Town, and their recent graphic memoir No Ivy League. They have edited and published the anthologies Chainmail Bikini: The Anthology of Women Gamers and Comics For Choice.
This event is part of the ongoing series, Cool Work x Interesting People.
