Cinema From the Margins: The Woman King
For the fourth installment of Cinema From the Margins, we'll be screening the film The Woman King (2021). This a historical action-adventure film retelling the story of the leading general (played by Viola Davis) of the Agojie, a women’s warrior unit that protected the West African kingdom of Dahomey during the 17th - 19th centuries.
This movie is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of 2 hour and 15 minutes.
Cinema From the Margins is a curated film viewing series that seeks to highlight stories from often overlooked communities and people of diverse identities, with an emphasis on subjects that are relevant to our current time. Films in this series will start with a brief introduction prior to the movie and will be followed by the option to casually discuss afterwards.
