REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.
Learn to paint in the Chinese style using a bamboo brush, Chinese ink, Chinese watercolor, and art paper with Kwok Kay Choey!
Kwok Kay Choey 徐國基 is a bi-cultural artist. A student of master artist Chen Wen-Hsi, he received his art education in Singapore, New York, and Europe.
Choey has led workshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at the American Museum of Natural History, among many others, and taught Chinese Art at Queens College. He was an adjunct professor of Chinese Art at SUNY Westchester Community College Center for the Arts.
In this hands-on workshop, students will learn basic brushstrokes and, through step-by-step instructions in this ancient art form, will create their own paintings inspired by bamboo, fish, birds, flowers, or other topics of interest.
Participants will also learn how calligraphy and painting are interconnected in Chinese art as they learn to write some Chinese characters and understand their pictographic origins.
