adult learning Chess Workshop

This adult intro-to-chess class with Andrew Avrutsky combines cognitive insights with hands-on learning, covering board setup, piece movement, and strategic thinking, followed by casual games and reflection on how chess skills can enhance focus, discipline, and consistency in our day-to-day lives. The class will take place in the 2nd floor meeting room.

Andrew Avrutsky currently works in the digital marketing field, but has had an interest in chess since his grandfather taught him how to play during his childhood. Chess has influenced his overall perspective in several ways. A powerful concept he learned is that in a formal game of chess, you don't talk to your opponent, you just act. The only time you speak when playing chess is to say check or checkmate, and if you treat life like a game of chess, it teaches you that sometimes it's best not to broadcast your intentions. Keep achieving, and let your achievements be your checkmate.
