Carnegie Hall Citywide: Emiliano Messiez Trio
Emiliano Messiez is a Latin Grammy-nominated pianist and composer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, now based in New York City. One of the most in-demand tango pianists in the U.S., he has performed at renowned venues such as Lincoln Center and collaborated with world-class musicians, including Paquito D’Rivera, Dino Saluzzi, John Patitucci, and Concha Buika. His album Silencio with José Luis Infantino received a UNESCO Prize for Music.
Known for his versatility, Emiliano moves seamlessly across genres, from classical and jazz to rock and Latin American rhythms. In the global tango community, he is celebrated as one of today’s most brilliant tango pianists and composers. Whether performing as a soloist, in small ensembles, or leading his 10-piece orchestra, Típica Messiez, his music is irresistibly energetic and deeply danceable.
Emiliano’s discography includes Psicoporteño (with Típica Messiez, produced by the Philadelphia Tango Festival), Ahora (with the Romo-Agri-Messiez Tango Trio, nominated for Best Tango Album at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards), and the single Cuando Será. He has also composed several musicals for young audiences, including the musicals The Guava Tree, Casa Alfonsa, The City Dog and the Prairie Dog and Coyote and the Counting Game. His 2020 album El Charrúa, recorded with the Underground Tango Ensemble, is a tribute to his friend and Latin Grammy-winning bandoneonist Raúl Jaurena.
A graduate of Argentina’s National Conservatory of Music—where he later taught composition—and the Escuela de Música Contemporánea of Buenos Aires, with specialization in popular music and composition in Brazil and Spain, Emiliano brings a deep academic foundation to his craft.
He is the pianist for the hit show Forever Tango, seen by over eight million people worldwide, including on Broadway and London’s West End.
Currently, Emiliano is composing the music for Bordello, a new musical blending tango, klezmer, jazz, and contemporary musical theatre. Set in early 1900s Buenos Aires, the show has already received recognition from NAMT (National Alliance for Musical Theatre), the Eugene O’Neill Theater Festival, and Broadway Bound.
