BYOB "Bring Your Own Book" Quiet Reading Party

Sat, Sep 21 2024
3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Cortelyou Library

all ages banned books

Did you know one of the most radical things you can do is read? Come celebrate the freedom to read with us for Banned Books Week! Bring any book you’d like to read silently in community and then engage in free conversation about literature, art, culture, community, censorship or whatever you like.

It’s not required, but we encourage you to bring a banned book to the party. Here’s a list of commonly banned titles you can put on hold:

  • All American Boys by Jason Reynolds
  • The Kite Runner written by Khaled Hosseini
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
  • The Handmaids Tale by Maragret Atwood
  • All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M Johnson
  • Flamer by Mike Curato
  • Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe
  • This Book is Gay by Juno Dawson
  • The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
  • Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews
  • Tricks by Ellen Hopkins

This event is made possible by Quiet Reading, an NYC-based organization hosting free reading events throughout the city.
