Buba Blouse: Nigerian Hand Sewing & Stories
Explore African sewing with BPL Ambassador, Saratu Mshelia, as she tells us about her journey starting a fashion business based on Nigerian textiles and shows us how to sew an authentic African blouse.
Saratu Mshelia is a folklorist and cultural enthusiast from northeast Nigeria, who has found her passion in the craft of clothes making that promote African textiles by merging them with western designs.

Supplies needed:
- 2 yards of fabric
- fabric scissors
- seam ripper
- pinking shears
- French curve

1 large eye 1.5 inch sewing needle
- 2 all-purpose polyester sewing threads
- 1 tailors chalk
- 1 straight ruler
- 2 yards 1/2 inch Double folded black bias tape
- 1 sets of sewing pins
