Join Brooklyn Public Library & the Brooklyn Eagles to celebrate the 2021 Brooklyn Public Library Literary Prize Shortlist Finalists.

In this virtual celebration, we toast to the shortlist authors of the 2021 Brooklyn Public Library Literary Prize, hear citations from the jurors (who are librarians or BPL staff), and enjoy a page from each of the shortlist titles read aloud by the authors.

About the prize: Each year Brooklyn Public Library, in collaboration with the Brooklyn Eagles, honors outstanding works of nonfiction and fiction/poetry with a prize given in the fall. Selected by librarians and library staff, who draw on their broad knowledge of literature and the many populations they serve, the BPL Literary Prize recognizes writing that captures the spirit of Brooklyn, one of the most socially and culturally diverse communities in the country.

The complete 2021 longlist can be viewed here; the 2021 shortlist will be announced the week of this event in tandem with the toast and reading. In November, the winners will receive a $5,000 prize and will be celebrated during the Brooklyn Classic, the signature fundraising event of the Brooklyn Eagles. Congratulations to this year's nominees!
