In 1940s and 50s America where polio is as dreaded as the atomic bomb, Dr. Dorothy Horstmann, and some of the world's greatest minds race against each other to find a vaccine. All must decide what is forgivable, and how much should be sacrificed, in pursuit of the cure. In this work of biographical historical fiction a women epidemiologist must navigate what is very much a man’s world in the time period in which the book takes place. This book is richly detailed and emotional with strong female characters. It also highlights the contributions made by women during the Polio pandemic.
