Black History Month: Puppet Making with Javaka Steptoe
Black History Month
kids create
Javaka Steptoe shares his talents with kids at a fun puppet making workshop this Friday. Bring a sock or mitten or use our supplies to craft a once-in-lifetime puppet. Steptoe is an award-winning author and illustrator of children's literature including several picture book biographies on renowned artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and world famous musician Jimi Hendrix. His unique mixed media collage art -- using found objects like plywood as the backdrop to his paintings -- won him the 2017 Caldecott and Coretta Scott King Awards for Radiant Child: The Story of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Basic supplies provided; but everyone is encouraged to bring their own recycled objects from home -- a lone mitten, sock or some pocket lint to repurpose and fashion into an amazing puppet!
