Raising Race Conscious Children: Explicit Race Talk for Early Childhood Educators (CTLE Credits: 3)

We often avoid talking about race with young children but, whether we like it or not, children notice similarities and differences between people. When we are silent, they are left to draw their own conclusions about what “different” means. Without coaching or support, their conclusions often reflect and reinforce biases. Fortunately, when we are intentional, we can impact the ways that our children see, categorize, and make meaning about race.

In this 3 hour-long workshop, you will:

  1. Develop confidence to talk about race with young children.
  2. Practice various strategies to proactively talk about race with young children.
  3. Strengthen children’s ability to become a change-maker.

Agenda:

1pm-1:30pm: Check in and refreshments

1:30-4:30pm: Training

4:30-5pm: Paperwork and library resources

Trainer: Raising Race Conscious Children
