Learn about the Bard Microcollege and how to apply!
Join us for an edition of our Rethinking Education Virtual Lecture Series: College Behind Bars Preview and Q&A with Dyjuan Tatro.
For the Bard Microcollege at Brooklyn Public Library’s 3rd virtual open house, a clip from the film College Behind Bars, by Lynne Novick and Ken Burns, will be screened and followed by a Q&A with Dyjuan Tatro. Dyjuan will talk about his participation in the film, his work with BPI on criminal justice, and his time spent as a writing fellow at the Microcollege.
Dyjuan Tatro serves as the Government Affairs Officer at the Bard Prison Initiative (BPI). As a BPI alumnus, he leverages his education and experience to further criminal justice reform through increased public investments in college in prison. He formerly acted as the criminal justice policy adviser to Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D-18) and is an active member of The Fortune Society’s Board of Directors. Originally from Albany, NY, Dyjuan currently resides in NYC where the City Council has honored him for his work in the criminal justice space. Dyjuan was a member of the BPI debate team that defeated Harvard in 2015. This feat, and part of his story, is featured in the documentary College Behind Bars, a film by Lynn Novick and Ken Burns, which is currently available on Netflix.
