Frequently asked questions

What if I don’t have a Kindle or don’t want to download an app?

You can access eBooks right in your browser by visiting for books hosted on OverDrive – no download necessary. All you need is a Brooklyn Public Library card and a PIN.

How many titles can I check out?

You can borrow up to 20 downloadable titles (across Overdrive and Libby combined), and place up to 10 holds at a time. You may choose your default lending periods under your account settings, from 7 days to 21 days. Checkouts automatically expire at the end of the loan period. No need to return (although returning early may may be appreciated by another patron waiting for that title!)

I replaced my card recently and now my holds aren't showing up in OverDrive or Libby. How to I make sure all my digital holds are transferred to my new account?

To make sure you still have access to all your eBook and audiobook holds, you'll have to submit a request with your old library card number and your new one. With that information we can ensure everything transfers smoothly.
