Fix it Flatbush: New Life for Old Sweaters with Ellie d’Eustachio
Fix it Flatbush is a special program at Flatbush Library aimed at creating community connections and sustainable practices through crafting and mending. In this workshop, local fiber artist Ellie Eustachio will walk us through creative ways to upcycle thrift store sweaters, from patching to alterations to darning to recycling the yarn provide tips for how to give new life to old sweaters. We'll talk all about repairing, resizing and repurposing your knits. Bring an old sweater from your closet that you’d like to refresh or repurpose and get started on a new project.

Ellie d’Eustachio is a Brooklyn-based textile street artist and teacher. Her solo and community yarnbombs have been published in the AP and Gothamist and are seen by thousands on scaffolding across NYC. She has been commissioned to produce large-scale installations for live events in Prospect Park, in Times Square, and at Lincoln Center, and her art has been on exhibit both here and abroad. She is the recipient of an Awesome Foundation NYC grant, and is a founder of the Brooklyn Yarnbomb Club.
Whether leading others in creating public art or crafting complex knit pieces that uplift, Ellie believes art is vital to our wellbeing. Many of her projects are driven by working collaboratively with others and creating meaningful, emotional visuals accessible to children.
