Fix it Flatbush is a special program at the Flatbush Library aimed at creating community connections and sustainable practices through crafting and mending. In this workshop, Hekima Hapa of Black Girls Sew will introduce us to sashiko stitching as a technique for repairing denim and woven fabrics.  

Supplies provided. Register for updates and reminders about this program. Seating first come, first served with limited capacity. Registration does not guarantee a seat.  

 

 

Hekima Hapa headshotHekima Hapa is a fashion designer, curator, educator and the founder of Black Girls Sew, a local nonprofit that works to empower youth and families through sewing, design, and entrepreneurship. In 2008, Hekima started Harriets by Hekima, a sustainable independent fashion brand. She has led sewing workshops for the Brooklyn Museum, FabScrap and the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. Most recently, Hekima curated an exhibit entitled Ancestors in Progress III, which was on view at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn this February.
