Jump In with Shadra Strickland
Early in my career I became well known for books that were emotionally charged, and introduced children to sensitive issue like drug addition, loss and segregation. The last few projects that I have completed deal with more playful and imaginative ideas. In all of my work I add a bit of magical realism to the illustrations. I do my best work when I can insert some of my own visual metaphors instead of illustrating more straightforward texts. This exhibit features work from six picture books that I have contributed to from 2008 to 2017.
