  • SummaryCollage, 23 x 25 inches, with photographs of people and objects. Artwork created in New York Harbor Hospital Creative Arts Program, led by Beryl Brenner. Project: Visions of vets, 2009, referencing the theme: Who is an American veteran? Artwork was displayed at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum and Education Center. Exhibition label: Heart and pride by Charles Raffa. Mr. Raffa’s work entitled “Heart and Pride” is a graphically busy piece of art work. Clearly his personal historical connection to the subject is a complex one. He presents a clock in the upper left hand corner of the work that harkens to the fact that creating the art has taken him back in time. It has helped him to revisit his thoughts and feelings about the experience of being an American veteran. He presents selected 2 images of himself within the work; one is a singular photo of himself and the other is with a fellow veteran. Indeed, this is what the veteran experience is like; loneliness coupled with camaraderie.
