BPL Presents whitman 200

In honor of Whitman’s 200th birthday, we celebrate the Bard of Brooklyn with music and poetry. The Phil Woodmore singers perform and poets Dorianne Laux (Only As The Day Is Long; The Book of Men), Joseph Millar (Kingdom; Blue Rust) and other invited guests read “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry”. This event occurs simultaneously with readings of the poem at each of Brooklyn Public Library’s 59 branches.

Albee Square is a public plaza located in Downtown Brooklyn at the intersection of Fulton Street, DeKalb Avenue, and Albee Square West.

Presented in collaboration with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and the Academy of American Poets. You can visit their site, Poets.org, for more poems and texts in celebration of Whitman 200.

Whitman at 200 is made possible with generous support from the Poetry Foundation.
