University Open Air: A Practical Approach to Basic Concepts in Molecular Biology Part 1
In the first half of this two-part class, we are going to discuss some basic concepts about types of artificial cloning (reproductive, therapeutic, and molecular or gene cloning) and their importance. In the second half, we are going to explore recombinant DNA technology and how it is used to study genes and produce therapeutic molecules.
Finally, we are going to debate some technologies that have been thought to be used to treat some diseases, such as the CRISPR technique. Join us for an exciting meeting about science and its potential to change and improve our lives!
Fernando Matsubara is a researcher and university professor who relocated to New York City in 2019. He received his BA in Biology from the State University of Londrina, Brazil. Later, he earned his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil. As a university professor, he worked at the Federal University of Paraná and Universidade Positivo. He is an expert on the molecular biology of animal venoms, with a special focus on the identification and characterization of venom toxins and their therapeutic and biotechnological applications.
