University Open Air: Failed Love in Romantic French Literature
Ever wondered why there are so many failed relationships in French literature? Many of these romances seemed doomed from the start, especially with all these young men falling for a married woman (Madame Bovary, The Red and Black, The Lily of the Valley). In this course, we will talk about some famous failed relationships in French literature and try to understand why these writers can’t let their characters “survive” love.
Nadia Bongo holds a PhD in French Language and Literature from Aix Marseille Université. She taught French Language, Literature and Research in the French Academy for six years. After publishing literary articles, she decided to focus on her creative work and attended a Cave Canem Workshop. Her poetry is forthcoming in Newtown literary journal and she is a Brooklyn Poets Fellowship finalist (Fall 2020). Nadia is currently working on a poetry collection.
