Surveillance NYC: The City That Always Watches

In this interactive, hour-long discussion, the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project’s Albert Fox Cahn will provide an overview of surveillance in New York City, looking specifically at the role facial recognition has had in tracking BIPOC communities. In addition to answering audience questions about modern surveillance technology, Mr. Cahn will lead the audience in an interactive exercise to respond to the NYPD’s new public surveillance policies. Under a new city law, the POST Act, New Yorkers have until February 25, 2021 to respond to the NYPD’s policies, including a new policy for facial recognition (PDF).
