Repair Hub Workshop: Fixing Furniture

Sat, Jun 25 2022
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Greenpoint Library

Bklyn Incubator environment Repair Hub skillshare

In this 2-hour hands-on workshop led by Allison Samuels, participants will learn easy techniques for at-home wooden furniture repair. In small groups, we’ll learn to use multiple adhesives and focus on dowel joinery for quick repairs. Zero woodworking experience needed—we will cover safe hand tool usage along the way. All (ages 15+) are welcome and tools will be provided.

Space is limited to 12 participants, allowing for close instruction and feedback.

For this reason, please only register if you plan to attend! We've worked hard to prepare a great workshop for you, and are arranging tools based on the number of registered attendees. If your plans change and you can’t make it, please email athompson@bklynlibrary.org at least 48 hours before the event so we can add someone off the waitlist.

Already-broken furniture will be graciously donated by Remix Market NYC, so please leave yours at home. Please bring your own mask, closed-toe shoes, and ear and eye protection for this indoor workshop.

About the expert: Through their small business, Two Tree Studios, and education and network-building initiative, The Level Up Project, Allison Eve Samuels believes “sustainable design” must go beyond material sourcing and waste management, and translate into a larger working ethos. Through both of these entities, Samuels explores the complexities of building an evolving, values-driven art practice-as-business, striving to maintain a light footprint, while contributing to a more equitable future within their industry. Al (she/they) is a NY native queer white woodworker/designer whose shop is in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Wave to them biking through the boroughs, often with a basket of produce or picnic blanket!

This is an indoor event and masks are mandatory. An injury and photograph waiver will need to be signed on site in advance of the workshop.
