In 2005, in correspondence with his attorneys from his isolation hut in Guantánamo’s Camp Echo, Mohamedou Ould Slahi constructed the manuscript for what was published ten years later as Guantánamo Diary, the internationally best-selling memoir of what one reviewer called “a triumph of humanity over chaos.” Now his story comes to the big screen in The Mauritanian, starring the extraordinary French actor Tahar Rahim; Jodie Foster as Nancy Hollander, Slahi’s lead attorney; and Benedict Cumberbatch as Navy prosecutor Stuart Couch. Watch the trailer here.
